U4GM Tips for Placing the Royal Access Chamber in POE2
You can run the Fate of the Vaal temple for hours and still get stopped by the same dumb sight: Atziri's arena sitting right there on your map, taunting you. It isn't broken. You're just missing the one room that actually matters, the Royal Access Chamber, and no amount of damage or speed clears will fix that. If you're stocking up on PoE 2 Currency and thinking it'll brute-force the door open, it won't—this is a layout problem, not a DPS check.
Finding the Key Room
The annoying part is the game doesn't ease you into it. You have to hunt down Xipocado, the Royal Architect, and you have to do it on a temple that's at least level 75. Below that, you can kill him all day and you still won't see the Restricted Room card you need. That's what trips people up. They assume they're unlucky, when really they're just under the threshold. Once you do get the drop, it feels like the league suddenly gets more serious, because now you're not just clearing rooms—you're managing a buildable key.
Placement Rules That Hurt
Here's where most runs fall apart. Restricted Rooms can't be slapped anywhere you like. The tiles you can use are limited, usually near the outer edges, and those edges are exactly where it's easiest to create dead ends. A lot of players place the chamber the moment they can, just to "lock it in." Then the temple shifts, a corridor disappears, and you realise you've built a fancy room that leads nowhere. It's rough, because you can see the solution in your head, but the grid won't give you the space.
Keeping a Route Alive
You need a clean chain: entrance to Royal Access Chamber, then onward to Atziri's Chamber. No gaps. No "almost connected." And the destabilising wipes after major bosses make it worse, because they don't just delete random fluff—they can cut the one hallway you were relying on. If you're being careful, you'll check the route after every big fight and plan two paths when you can. If you're not, you'll end up burning Medallions to reroll a room or remove a blocker, and sometimes that still won't save the run.
The Payoff in the Vault
When the layout finally holds, interacting with the connected Royal Access Chamber is the moment everything clicks. The door opens, and Atziri stops being scenery and becomes a real fight with punishing mechanics and damage that doesn't care about your confidence. Beat her and you get access to Atziri's Vault, which is the whole reason people put up with this puzzle in the first place—exclusive uniques, juicy drops, and the kind of loot that makes you want to queue up another run right away. If you're planning multiple temples, it's worth saving some poe 2 currencies for the rerolls and fixes that keep the route from collapsing mid-run.
